USS Black (DD-666) was a Fletcher -class destroyer of the United States Navy . Namesake Hugh D. Black Hugh David Black was born on 29 June 1903 in Oradell, New Jersey. He was appointed to the United States Naval Academy in 1922, graduated in 1926, and served on board USS Richmond, mainly in the Far East, between 1926 and 1928.

From the Marshall Islands southwest to Western New Guinea and north to Japan proper, the BLACK was one of the many destroyers that did everything from delivering mail to bombarding the enemy's homeland.
